Still in the Fight … Last Call

There are Moments that punctuate ones life with a new vulnerability that can be a gateway into a reality that had been unimaginable up until then. The elder that  faces the reality of his own mortality, the sudden loss of a loved one, the terminal diagnosis, the first encounter with the reality of the miraculous, for example.

At these gracious moments it is very important to seek the right influences, the right questions. There is a Divine and merciful opportunity; there is also a terrible danger. Here, (Gunlap70) is gathered some of the materials that, if rightly used, can help you to the right choices that will place you within reach of the right influences, that can guide you to the right questions; which will lead you to the feet of the Master, where He Himself will take up your instruction and teaching. Gunlap70 is a collection of materials referenced from “The Men’s Meeting” The Meeting , a gathering of old and young men who are discontent with any thought of slowing down the spiritual quest, of resting, of retirement, or finding one’s proper place, settling into the career, so to speak. There are two primary intentions: (1) to continue, even accelerate, the spiritual quest (especially in the elder life) and (2) to fulfill the injunction “pass it on”.

The name, Gunlap70,  is taken from the track sports event of the mile race as it was run in my youth. The last lap, the last quarter mile, was the gun lap; when the lead runner started the last quarter mile a gun was fired to alert all the runners that the  “gun lap” had started. To a runner in that race, the energies were exhausted, strength was gone, breath was labored; the last lap was run on nerve and will and an earnest driving force that moved the physical runner. Put that analogy to elder life and you have the picture of Gunlap 70. Here there are materials from which to gather that earnest driving force to complete the race at full throttle, full sprint, for a sane, sober, and spiritually adventurous life striving forward and upward to the last gasp.
